Her massage style and passion is in Therapeutic Massage. She does senior massage, and enjoys working with populations for I/DD and Autistic populations and anyone who loves a patient and conscientious practitioner. She hopes to provide services to all who can benefit from the therapeutic aspects of massage. She has been given feedback from survivors of abuse that she has a way of "holding space". She also has an abundant passion to reach the underserved which is her primary mission: to enrich the quality of the community in which she lives and to help others thrive within in that community. She chooses to serve Asheville and the surrounding areas to provide travel services into group homes, recovery group homes and senior centers. Eventually she dreams of being in a larger office location to live up to her business name, in order to facilitate at health and wellness center. This way she can hire a team to join her in the mission to provide these services to a broader community.
She has a focus for incorporating massage technique to promote healing for low back pain. With her experience as a yoga teacher she combines yoga stretches along with therapeutic massage techniques to relieve these painful issues. Using holds and stretching technique with massage she gets into areas that would not otherwise have been reached. Her massage philosophy is to restore the muscles back to their original form, in order to heal taut tissue, holding patterns and avoid injury.
To relieve tension and chronic stress in joints and taut muscles she uses other tools including hydrotherapy and heat therapy to subside pain issues. For localized tension in muscle group areas or trigger points, she is utilizes heat with hot stones to soften pent up pain sources. She practices a variety of techniques including Ashiatsu, Trigger Point Release, Swedish Massage, Acupressure, Integrated Massage, and Sports Massage to break old holding patterns. She believes that each person is different and with a variety of strategies you're able to give the individual seeking care a catered experience depending on the need.
Carmen also makes tinctures and salves using herbs to help with inflammation. She likes helping her clients learn about what is going on in their bodies discussing what "tools" can be used outside of treatment hours to enhance self care and healing. These tools include herbs, essential oils and nutritional suggestions. She uses her background knowledge of teaching to educate folks about their bodies and to come up with a wellness plan. Carmen also believes that talk therapy is a good form of release for stress. She encourages people to come to their appointments early when experiencing high stress or anxiety to take time to talk it out before settling into massage. She also has a background for working with people struggling with PTSD, Depression, Anxiety etc. She has many friends that she likes to recommend that are also in the healing fields and is a big advocate for connecting people to resources within a community.
